An HCC education has a profound and direct impact on both the city of Houston and its citizens. At one-fifth the cost of Texas universities, HCC makes higher education a reality for tens of thousands of Houston-area residents every year.
But even HCC's modest tuition and fees can present obstacles for some people. Two-thirds of our credit students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Open enrollment gives them a chance to improve their skills and knowledge - but only if they can afford it.
Your contributions will help Houston students gain access to higher education and complete their degree or certificate.
- College graduates with an associate degree will earn an average of $510,000 more over their lifetime than those with only a high school diploma.
- Each taxpayer dollar invested in a community college yields $3 in benefits in regional economic development.
- HCC returns over $1 billion to the local economy each year through the earnings of former students, faculty, and staff.
For more on how HCC benefits the entire Houston community, please visit our HCC & Houston page.
- Tuition and fees at HCC are 20% of the cost of those at Texas's public universities.
- $685 will pay a semester of tuition and fees for a full-time in-district student.
- $175 will cover the cost of a single course.
- $100 will help buy textbooks for a student studying anything from calculus to cardiovascular technology.
- Other amounts may help a professor to start a creative program to enhance student learning.
To give to the HCC Foundation, please visit our Donate Now page.
With a gift of $5,000 or more, donors may fund a named scholarship to establish a legacy or honor another's memory or achievements. Donors may designate a set of specific criteria for the scholarship if they choose to do so.
Endowments allow donors to make stable philanthropic investments with significant yearly returns that can guarantee support for the college and students into the future. With a gift of $10,000 or more, an endowment can be established to fund many types of programs and activities, including scholarships, distinguished chairs, and professorships.
By funding endowed scholarships, donors help ensure that future students are able to pursue a higher education regardless of their financial situation. HCC also gratefully accepts non-endowed scholarship gifts, which provide one-time, immediate financial assistance for HCC students.
Donors are also welcome to establish endowed professorships and chairs in their own name. Such professorships and chairs help HCC attract distinguished faculty and recognize outstanding teaching. Currently a $500,000 donation can establish a Houston Community College professorship and $1,000,000 can establish a chair.
With Planned Giving, dedicated donors may leave a legacy at HCC. To learn more, please visit our Planned Giving section.
