HCC Foundation Scholarship Requirements

A wide variety of scholarships are available to Houston Community College students through the HCC Foundation. All scholarships require that the student be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at HCC; many require enrollment in 9 or 12 credit hours. Applicants will be considered for every scholarship for which they appear eligible.

In addition, some scholarships have specific requirements, such as an audition or submission of a portfolio. Please review the list of scholarship requirements carefully and be sure to mail in all required materials for any specific scholarship for which you wish to be considered.

Attention F-1 Students:
Currently, four HCC Foundation scholarships are available for F-1 students: the Computer Science Technology Scholarship, the Society of Iranian American Women for Education Scholarship, the Southwest Intensive English Program Endowed Scholarship, and the Northeast College Scholarship.

Jim Box Endowed Scholarship
Established by friends and family of former HCC Foundation board member Jim Box in honor of his professional achievements and support of HCC

Estelle Cameron Memorial Endowed Scholarship for the Hearing Impaired
Established by former student Estelle Cameron to support training of interpreters

Interpreter/sign language training; minimum 2.0 GPA.

CenterPoint Energy Endowed Scholarship
Established by CenterPoint Energy

Science Technologies, Manufacturing and Construction Trades or Information Technologies major; minimum 3.0 GPA or enrolled as a member of the Honors College.

Harriet and Joseph Foster Brighter Futures Endowed Scholarship
Established by HCC board member Harriet Foster and her husband, Joseph Foster

Full-time student; minimum 2.0 GPA.

HCC General Endowed Scholarship
Established by HCC Foundation

Minimum 2.0 GPA.

Heinen Fine Arts Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established by friends and family of a former HCC fine arts professor

Enrollment in a minimum 6 credit hours of fine arts courses at Central College and participation in fine arts events and activities as performer, stage hand, student assistant, or as otherwise needed during each scholarship semester. Recipients must receive a recommendation from a Central Campus Fine Arts instructor. Applicants who wish to be considered for this award should consult with their instructors prior to applying. Minimum 3.0 GPA. U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Hispanic Education and Leadership Title V Endowment
Supported by HCC staff and faculty through the efforts of the Hispanic Educational and Leadership Committee (HELC)

Minimum 2.0 GPA, Hispanic heritage, and statement of financial need included in application.

Houston Radiological Society Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established by former HCC Foundation board member Dr. Stewart Bushong

Full-time enrollment in HCC's radiography program; minimum 2.7 GPA, completion of one semester in radiography prior to application.

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established by the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo

Agricultural science major; minimum 2.5 GPA.

Rita Kelly Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established by the HCC Faculty Senate

Texas resident having lived 12 months in the state; previous completion of 15 credit hours at HCC; 3.0 GPA. Must maintain 3.0 GPA to keep scholarship for following semester.

Mary Thomas Marshall Endowed Choral Scholarship Fund
Established by Mary Thomas Marshall

Minimum 6 credit hours enrollment at Northwest College in Choir and Voice during each scholarship semester; minimum 2.0 GPA. Audition is required. Please contact Dr. Allyson Applebaum at 713-718-5653.

Larry Mers Endowed Performance Scholarship
Established in honor of Larry B. Mers, the first administrator/founder of the Fine Arts program for the district

Enrollment in Performing Arts at Central Campus either by audition or permission of instructor; demonstrated financial need. Must provide letter of recommendation from performing arts class instructor.

Billie Bath Perlman Scholarship
Established by the family of Billie Bath Perlman in her memory

Recent graduate of Austin or Jones High School with a minimum 2.0 GPA; must be enrolled at Southeast College.

Radia Enterprises, Inc. Scholarship
Established by Radia Enterprises, Inc.

Student must demonstrate an interest in a health science career and be enrolled in Coleman College for Health Sciences; minimum 2.0 GPA.

Dr. Ruth Burgos-Sasscer Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in honor of former HCC chancellor Ruth Burgos Sasscer

Minimum 2.0 GPA; by counselor recommendation only.

John C. Sefert and Family Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established to support students interested in pursuing a career in Accounting/Business

Enrolled in the Accounting program; full-time student; Minimum 3.0 GPA.

The Society of Photographers in Industry Scholarship
Supports photography students attending HCC

Declared major in photography and enrolled at Southwest College; minimum 3.0 GPA in courses related to major and a minimum of 2.0 in all other academic subjects.

Southwest Intensive English Program Endowed Scholarship
Established by the HCC Gulfton Intensive English Program

Enrolled in the Intensive English Program at HCC Southwest College; minimum 2.5 GPA, absences during award semesters not to exceed 10%.

Mary Stephenson Nursing Endowment
Established by HCC's Associate Degree in Nursing program

Current enrollment in the Associate Degree in Nursing program and previous completion of minimum two semesters with a 3.55 GPA. The highest ranking student in the Associate Degree in Nursing Program automatically receives this scholarship.

TIC Endowment
Established by TIC The Industrial Company

Minimum 2.0 GPA. Student must be enrolled in a construction trade program.

Andrea White Endowed Scholarship
Established by HCC board members in honor of Andrea White, wife of Houston Mayor Bill White

Honorary Bob G. Bibb Fashion and Interior Design Scholarship		Enrollment at Central College majoring in Fashion or Interior Design; minimum 2.0 GPA and 6 hours of course work.

BAFTX Scholarship Established by the British American Foundation of Texas		Must be a U.S. Citizen and Texas resident or a F-1 Foreign Student from Great Britain. Must be pursuing degree in science, technology or international business. Minimum 3.0 GPA and minimum 12 credit hours the semester of award.
Central College Dance Scholarship Established by HCC's dance program at Central College		Dance major enrolled in minimum 6 hours of dance courses. Minimum 2.0 GPA.
College Office Professionals Association Scholarship Established by the College Office Professionals Association (COPA)		Scholarships at the discretion of the COPA Scholarship Committee.
Computer Science Technology Scholarship Established by the HCC Computer Science department		Pursuit of associate of applied science degree offered by Computer Science Technology department.
deRoulet DAAC Scholarship Established to benefit students enrolled in the DAAC program		Enrollment in the DAAC Program at HCC Coleman College; previous completion of one class with the DAAC heading; minimum 2.0 GPA.
Digital Gaming & Simulation Program Scholarship		Enrollment in the Digital Gaming and Simulation Program; demonstration of financial need by qualifying as a Pell Grant recipient; minimum of 6 hours of course work and 2.0 GPA.
Robert Emory Memorial Veterinary Scholarship Established by No Paws Left Behind in memory of Mr. Robert Emory		Enrollment in the Veterinary Paramedic Program at HCC Northwest. Minimum 2.0 GPA to receive scholarship; 2.5 GPA to maintain award in academic year.
Dr. G. Edward Fritchie Memorial Scholarship Established by Dr. Fritchie's friends, family, and former colleagues at HCC's Central College		Completion of minimum 15 credit hours at HCC, with minimum of 7 hours in math/science (no developmental courses). Must complete 9 hours per semester of award year. Minimum 3.0 GPA and minimum 3.3 GPA for math/science courses.
Faculty and Staff Scholarship Established by the HCC Foundation		Must be Enrolled at HCC, available to all HCC employees or dependents.
Harriet and Joe Foster Foundation YMCA Scholarship Established by Harriet and Joe Foster		Must be active participant of the YMCA and present a letter of recommendation for the scholarship from the Center Executive. Must be full-time student with minimum 2.0 GPA
Willie Lee Gay Scholarship Established in honor of historian and local educator Willie Gay		Attending classes at Central College; 2.0 GPA.
Carlos Gonzales Memorial Scholarship Fund Established by the staff of Southeast College in memory of Carlos Gonzales		Enrollment at Southeast College; minimum 2.0 GPA; U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Hispanic Education and Leadership Committee (HELC) Scholarship Supported by HCC staff and faculty through the efforts of the HELC		Minimum 2.0 GPA; Hispanic heritage.
HCC Department of Finance and Administration Student Scholarship Established by HCC's Department of Finance and Administration		Minimum 2.5 GPA; enrollment in a minimum of 12 hours; requires signed degree plan.
HCC Fashion Scholarship Established by the Central College Fashion department		Restricted to Fashion majors at Central College; minimum 2.0 GPA.
HCC Faculty/Staff Scholarship Fund Established for all HCC employees and their dependents		For HCC employees and their dependents. Can be received every other year.
HCC Foundation Annual Scholarship Fund Established by trustees of the HCC Foundation		Minimum 2.0 GPA.
Houston Immunization Champions Fellowship Scholarship Established by the Rotary Club of Houston, the Houston Area Immunization Partnership, and the HCC Foundation Application Information & Form		Current enrollment in either the Medical Assistant Program as a second-semester student or the Health Information Technology as a second- year student; completion of at least 9 hours of major course work (courses with MDCA prefix) in Medical Assistant program OR 12 hours of major course work (courses with HITT prefix) in Health Information Technology; cumulative HCC GPA of 3.0 or higher (3.0 GPA for all courses taken at HCC on HCC transcript); maintain cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and enrollment in 6 credit hours to remain scholarship eligible; also must maintain eligibility for employment with healthcare provider(s) to remain scholarship eligible. Dr. Bruce Leslie Scholarship Fund Established by the faculty and staff of HCC in honor of Dr. Bruce Leslie		Minimum 2.0 GPA.
Marjorie Goldberg Lott Accounting Scholarship Established by Marjorie Goldberg Lott		U.S. Citizen, U.S. Resident, Undocumented, or F-1 student. Minimum 6.0 hour enrollment at HCC and one accounting course during the year. Minimum 2.5 GPA and enrolled at Spring Branch Campus during award semesters.
Medical Assistant Scholarship Established the Baxter Trust and the Vale-Asche Foundation.		Applicant must be currently enrolled in the Medical Assistant program at Coleman College for Health Sciences effective Spring 2009; Applicant must be currently enrolled in a t least one course with the course prefix "MDCA" effective Spring 2009; Applicant must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.

Real Estate Scholarship Established by the HCC Real Estate program		For students enrolled in the Real Estate program; minimum 3.0 GPA.
Dr. Edward Reasoner Memorial Scholarship Established by friends and family of Edward Reasoner in his memory		Minimum 2.0 GPA.
Mary Nell Reck Culinary Scholarship Established by Les Dames d'Escoffier International - Houston Chapter		For female students enrolled in the HCC Culinary Arts program; minimum 2.0 GPA, and completion of CHEF 1212, 1301, 2201, 2231, and 1305 and/or PSTR 1301, 1305, 1310 at time of application.
Joyce Reynolds Memorial Scholarship		Awards will be made only to second-year students enrolled in the respiratory care program and full-time student at Coleman College
Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas Scholarship Established by the Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas Inc.		Must be active participant in the Junior Achievement program. Must be enrolled at HCC with minimum 2.0 GPA. Apply through Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas Inc. application process.
Rudy T Classic Golf Tournament Scholarship Established by the Tomjanovich Foundation		Applicants must explain in their scholarship essay how they have they have overcome adversity to graduate high school and/or attend college; also must demonstrate financial need.
Sahni Family Scholarship Established by Mr. Randhir Sahni		Minimum 2.0 GPA.
San Jacinto High School Alumni Association Scholarship Established by the San Jacinto High School Alumni Association		Minimum 2.0 GPA. Recipients must attend award ceremony morning of 1st Saturday in December at Central College.
SBISD Crystal Award Scholarship Established by Dr. Zachary Hodges		Awarded by Dr. Zachary Hodges, Northwest President. Transferable to any other HCC student.
Sembradores de Amistad Educational Foundation Scholarship Established by Sembradores de Amistad Educational Foundation		First-year Hispanic student.
Society of Iranian American Women for Education Scholarship for F-1 Students Established by S.I.A.W.E.		Applicants or one of their parents must have been born in Iran. Student must have an F-1 visa, demonstrate financial need, complete a minimum 12 credit hours each semester while using the scholarship, and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Mail in valid copy of I-20 form, photocopy of passport.
Society of Iranian American Women for Education Scholarship/Iranian Heritage for Non F-1 Students Established by S.I.A.W.E		Applicants or one of their parents must have been born in Iran. Applicant must also demonstrate financial need, complete minimum 9 credit hours each semester while using the scholarship, and maintain minimum 2.0 GPA.
Society of Petroleum Engineers, Gulf Coast Section Scholarship Established by the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Gulf Coast Section		Applicants must be enrolled in the Petroleum Technology Program at HCC Northeast; mimimum GPA 2.75; two letters of recommendation, essay stating how scholarship will benefit a career in Petroleum Technology.
Texas Executive Women Scholarship Agreement		For female students; must be a TEW program mentee; enrolled at Houston Community College; minimum 2.0 GPA.
Janice Sutton Memorial Scholarship Established by friends and family of Janice Sutton		One award for a returning HCC student and one for a student who has passed the GED test. Discuss in the essay on your online application the importance of the GED and what obstacles you overcame to obtain it. Minimum 2.0 GPA.
Wheatley High School Scholarship Established by the HCC Business Administration Advisory Committee		For graduates from Wheatley, Sam Houston, or Reagan high schools. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Enrollment at HCC Northeast College with a minimum of 9 credit hours. Potential awardees will be interviewed prior to award and must agree to speak to high school seniors about the importance of attending college.
Dr. Pat Williamson Scholarship		For female students with children studying in the field of Education; minimum 2.0 GPA.
Women in the Driver's Seat Scholarship Established by the Intown Houston Chamber of Commerce		For female students. Minimum 2.0 GPA. In essay section of online application, discuss your educational, professional, and career goals.
Marsha Ann Wooldridge Scholarship Fund Established in memory of Marsha Ann Wooldridge		Minimum 2.0 GPA.
