  7. I am an undocumented student, so I cannot complete the FAFSA online or receive federal financial aid. Can I still get a scholarship?
You may still be able to receive financial aid from the State of Texas. Please visit the financial aid office at your local HCC campus. The financial aid officer there can help you complete the application. The HCC Foundation has scholarships designed to help undocumented students attend college, and we encourage you to apply.

  9. How important is the essay? I am not a good writer.
The essay is an important part of your scholarship application because it is the best way for the scholarship judges to get to know you. Good writing is helpful, but you can make up for some writing challenges by crafting a thorough essay and carefully revising it before you submit it. View Tips for Writing a Strong Essay.
  10. I’m having technical difficulties with the scholarship application.

Yes. Some HCC Foundation scholarships require a high GPA, but many require only a 2.0 or better.
  13. Why are there so many different questions on the application?
The HCC Foundation offers many different scholarships. The questions are designed to allow us to consider you for every scholarship for which you may be eligible. That’s why it’s important that you fully complete the application.
  14. When will I find out whether I have received a scholarship?
Scholarship award letters will be sent out during the summer before classes start in August.
  15. Where does the money for scholarships come from?
HCC Foundation scholarships are paid for by individuals, companies, or organizations that care deeply about helping students such as yourself go to college. The money does not come from the government.

  17. I've moved since I've applied.  What do I do?
Please keep the HCC Foundation informed of your current address by logging on and updating your profile information.  By doing so, you will ensure that we have the correct mailing address to send your award agreement if you receive a scholarship.  Without it, we will not be able to contact you!
  18. I completed the application last year. Do I need to do it again?
Yes. If you wish to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete a new application every year.
  19. I want to make a change to my application, but I can't access it. What do I do?
