How to Qualify for the O14 Scholarship

The O14 Scholarship is for students whose families don’t have much money to pay for college tuition and books. It is available to students who enroll full time at HCC within one year of either graduating high school or earning a GED prior to their 20th birthday.

You don’t have to have great grades. You don’t even have to fill out a scholarship application. All you have to do is meet the Opportunity 14 requirements and complete the following two steps:

1. Complete a federal financial aid application. This is a government application that requires information from your parents’ tax return. You will have to spend some time completing it, but it’s worth it. It may help you qualify for Opportunity 14 or for thousands of dollars in government grants to pay for your education.

You should apply for financial aid right away. The sooner you apply, the more likely you will receive funds before classes begin.

For help completing the financial aid application, please see your high school counselor, speak with a financial aid advisor at an HCC campus near you, or visit the HCC Financial Aid section online.

2. Apply to HCC and enroll in at least 9 semester hours of classes.

HCC is an “open enrollment” college. That means that every student who has earned a high school diploma or a GED will be admitted. All you have to do is complete the online application.

Once you have completed these two steps, you will automatically be considered for the Opportunity 14 Scholarship. If you are eligible, you will receive an e-mail from the HCC Financial Aid office telling you how much federal financial aid and/or Opportunity 14 funds you will receive to apply toward your tuition, fees, and books.
