Funded HCC Foundation Grant Application Programs

The HCC Foundation supports innovation through grants that provide partial or complete funding of accepted projects. In Fiscal Year 2010/2011, the HCC Foundation Board of Directors approved partial or complete funding for the following projects through the Scholarship and Awards Committee:

  • Funding ($2,500) for five $500 HCC scholarships awarded at the 25th Annual Houston Hispanic Forum Career and Education Day, held at the George R. Brown Convention Center on February 19, 2011.
  • Funding ($2,700) for HCC scholarship to increase awareness of HCC's School of Continuing Education and its short-term workforce certificate programs. The scholarship was awarded through a video competition; students were asked ot create a one-minute original video for YouTube explaining why receiving a short-term workforce certificate from HCC is a 'Smart Decision.'
  • Funding ($5,000) for a New Media Seminar to teach HCC faculty how to adapt their teaching to meet the needs of the future workforce and better prepare HCC students to utilize these new technologies.
  • Funding ($9,600) for scholarship support for 24 HCC Northwest students to participate in "A Bioscience Pathway for the Underserved: An Innovative Partnership Between HCC, University of Houston and Baylor College of Medicine." The program encourages creation of a pathway for HCC students to complete coursework at HCC, transfer to complete their undergraduate degrees at UH, and apply to Baylor College of Medicine to pursue a career in medicine. The focus is on students from underrepresented populations.
  • Funding ($5,600) for HCC/Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) Summer 2011 Internship for six HCC Southeast College biology students to work in basic and clinical research laboratories at Baylor College of Medicine. The eight-week program included faculty from both Baylor and HCC who designed research projects relevant for each participating HCC student's area of interest. Student seminars were hosted at HCC Southeast in fall 2011 for interns to share the knowledge and experience gained from the program.
  • Sponsorship ($1,400) for students in HCC e+ Math Club to attend MathFest Conference, a national conference coordinated by the Mathematical Association of America to improve and enhance participants' academic and leadership skills and exchange ideas with students from other colleges.
  • Matching funds ($2,500) for five $1,000 Junior Achievement Scholarships for students attending HCC.
  • Matching funds ($2,000) for four $1,000 Asian Houston Network Scholarships for students attending HCC.
  • Funding ($20,000) for the HCC Foundation Annual Scholarship Fund in support of general student scholarships for tuition, books, and fees for students attending HCC.
